1/48th Station Masters Cottage continued..

Hi all,

I have been working on my cottage in between setting up my website for the mini miniature show which is taking place on 11th to 14th of August online.

As for the cottage, firstly I painted the ceiling of the main part of the cottage.  I used 2 coats of emulsion paint which I applied with a make-up sponge.  They don't give you brush marks which would look wrong in such a small scale. When it was dry I sanded it using a piece of abranet, it gives the paint a nice smooth finish.

I added wallpaper to the back and side of the main part of the cottage.  Ensuring to leave gaps where the pieces would be stuck to their neighbours.

I stuck these 3 pieces onto the main carcass and clamped in place until dry.  Those clamps are one of my most used mini tools.

Its starting to come together don't you think?

Until next time....

1/48th Scale Station Masters Cottage

Hi all,

Thanks for bearing with me.  I wanted to share with you my latest project.  Its from a kit by petite properties

I have made their kits in the past.  The reason I like them so much is that they are laser cut so all the pieces fit together exactly.

I started by assembling the main body of the house to see how it went together.  I kept the pieces in place using masking tape.

While the pieces were together I used my pencil to carefully mark where they met so I knew where not to stick any wall paper or flooring paper.  I prefer to paper these small kits before assembly as its easier to access.

I started with the flooring. I printed some I had found online and stuck it to the floor using a glue stick.

Then I flipped it onto the back and cut around the base piece of MDF using a craft knife.

At this point I realised I had not left the gaps for sticking I should have so tried to cut them into the parquet paper on the left.  I messed it up... doh! So I replace it with some tiled effect paper instead.

I chose some wall paper from some scrap booking papers.  You can find suitable patterns in the 6x6 scrapbook paper books.

I used them to cover the interior of the  left porch side of the cottage.  I did it the same way as I did the flooring.  The largest wall needed covering on both sides.

I started to assemble the left side of the cottage using clamps and Lego to ensure it stayed square.

That's all for today.  Check back to see my progress...

1/48 greenhouse

Hi all,

I thought I would share with you my latest mini make. It is a 1/48 scale greenhouse I made from a kit by petite properties.

http://www.petitepropertiesltd.com/onlineshop/index.php

I added my own plant racking on the right of the door and made the seed trays from a kit by Jane harrop.

http://www.janeharrop.co.uk/48th_kits.html

It was a really simple kit to make up and lots of fun. I decided to make it look a bit run down, mainly after smudging glue on the windows, so dirtied my initial paint job up a bit.

If any of you have any tips or links for making 1/48 plants or accessories please let me know.

Take care

Blog Confusion :o(

Hi all,

Just a quick update in case you were wondering whats going on with my blog.

While looking through my old posts I discovered that I had lost a LOT of my photographs.

I think it coincides with me using the blogpress app to write my posts.  I don't use this anymore and couldn't recover my files as the app support site was a nonsense!!

Anyway I have found SOME of my photographs so have put back what I could and edited/removed the parts I could not.

I'm really sorry to anyone who comes looking for a project as I know I get a lot of pinterest traffic.  I will try my best to redo them and re-post them.

Brambly hedge inspiration dresser project

Hi all,

I thought I would share with you my latest project. I saw this great picture online from the Brambly hedge series of books and loved the over sized dresser.

I had a dresser which had lost its doors, sorry but I didn't take a photo of it before I started to take it apart. I must remember to do that in the future.

I used 2mm card stock to build up the height and used a lot of the original shelves as well as building in some more of my own. I painted it in matt ivory emulsion to match my previous shabby display cupboard and used the same pins as door knobs. All of the drawers were made by me and all open.

I found a great online tutorial by Lesley Shepherd for making a mouse which was really easy to follow.

I hope to add more to the dresser and mouse.

Hope you like them ;0)

Jewellery shop display

Hi all,

It struck me that I had not shown you all the jewellery shop display I made for a club project. I think it was because I struggled to take a decent picture of it, but as I have one now here goes.

I made the jewellery busts ,myself, casting them ( you can see how in a previous post) and made all of the jewellery displays myself, just bought the mini bits for the jewellery from http://www.teepeecrafts.co.uk/

Hope you like it.

Last months club project

Hi all,

I wanted to share with you our club night project from last month. We were taught to make this adorable miniature Red Riding opening book.

The book is made from a metal book box you can buy from teepee crafts. We were given the print outs to cover our book boxes with.

If you open up the book inside is a tiny scene with a teeny tiny mouse dressed as red riding hood. The mouse is made from a cocktail stick believe it or not with flock for fur and dressed in paper clothes.

Overall it was a really challenging project with lots of intricate work but I love how it has turned out.

Next month at club it is my turn to teach the project. We will be making a push along toy dog like the one shown below.

Hope you like my mini book. I hope to put on instructions for making the push along dogs. Just need to take a couple more pictures.

Take care

Stained glass project tutorial

Hi all,

I thought I would share with you a simple tutorial for making fake stained glass windows for your dolls house projects.

As you can see they can be made in a variety of designs and can be framed easily.

You will need:

Graph paper
Scissors
Craft knife
Glue
Black card
Permanent markers
laminating punch
Ruler
Masking tape
Pencil
Laminating machine

Step 1:
Sketch your stained glass designs.  It's helpful to do this onto graph paper so you can be sure your lines are straight.

Step 2:

Use your craft knife and ruler to cut some 1mm strips from black card.  They may curl up when you cut them but they straighten out easily when stretched.

Step 3:
Open up your laminating punch and stick it over your chosen design.  You need to have the inside surface of the pouch uppermost as you will be creating your stained glass design inside the pouch.

Step 4:
Start sticking the black card strips over the lines of your design.  Use your ruler to make sure your card lines are straight.

Your design will take shape quickly.  It's better to work from right to left and top to bottom.
Keep going until the lines of your design are completely covered.

Step 5:
Use permanent marker to colour in sections of your design.  You can add as much or as little colour as you like.

Step 6:
Close your laminating pouch and put it through your laminating machine.  Make sure it is at the correct temperature or setting for the pouch you are using.

Finally enjoy your finished fake stained glass....

You can trim your laminating pouch and put it into an existing window frame or make your own frame by sandwiching the edges of the window in wood pieces.

I hope you enjoy this little project.  Please let me know if you try it out.

Take care

Ebay listing

Hi all,

It seems like ages since my last post but I have been working on a project to share with you all.  Hopefully I will get it completed and photographed this week during half term.

In other news my sister encouraged my to list something to sell on eBay today.  It has been a long time since I listed anything so I only put on one item to see how it goes.  I thought I would share it with you too.

I turned the miniature wand by hand and also made the wand box myself.  The potion jars you can see in the background were also made by me.

I hope you like them all.

Take care

1/12 basket and thermos

Hi all,

I thought I would share with you a project I ran at my dolls house club this week. We made a 1/12 basket using a project from Jane Harrop.

http://www.collectors-club-of-great-britain.co.uk/Dolls-Houses-and-Miniatures/Features/Miniature-Basket-Making--Make-a-dolls-house-shopping-basket/_ch27_ft1569

I adapted mine to include a lid and wire handles and designed the thermos flask to go with it.

Shabby inspired kitchen room box

Hi all,

It seems ages since my last post when I showed you all my brambly hedge inspired over sized dresser, well to be honest it took me a while to find just the right bits I needed to put together the room, plus I had to wait for my sister to make me something for it. Today it finally came together....

I wallpapered the room box which I got a while ago from dolls house emporium and laid some floorboards, bought online from eBay.

This is the empty room box.

I used a little piece of wood trim between the wallpaper and the wall to cover the join. Here is a close up of the flooring.

My most recent mini makes take pride of place in the room box.

I painted the table at the front to match the dresser and cabinet.

Here is a close up of the table and dresser.

One last picture, to show you the gorgeous rug my sister made me for Christmas which fits perfectly under the dresser. She sells these lovely punch needle rugs under the name lollysminis on eBay.

Now I need to fill the room box with lots of lovely miniatures, I have a few and plan to make lots more so will keep you updated.

Take care all
